Astra H: HOW TO: fit missing cruise control wiring
Having fitted up a number of cars now with wiring for cruise control, I am in a position to reveal what wires are involved on the car's loom and how to refit them. I am pretty certain that this will work for all Astra H's but you do this at your own risk.
Most H's with incomplete wiring are missing the link between the main body (X1) connector and the XE2 connector under the bonnet, but still have the clutch switch wiring behind the clocks. The easiest way of refitting this is:
- remove the battery
- remove the lid to the underhood electrical centre (UEC) next to the battery, there is a diagram on the lid showing how it's removed.
- remove the plastic trim behind the fusebox hiding the 80A fuses
- remove the 10mm bolt behind that trim
- unscrew the 3x T25 holding the looms to the UEC
- pull off the UEC completely and put it somewhere it won't get wet/damaged etc. (it's expensive!!)
- remove the bottom right-hand loom from the holder under the UEC and locate pin 27. It should have a grey wire coming from it. Tap into this wire, using scotchlocks, a choccy block or similar. Make sure the connection is tight and well insulated. You will need maybe 3 meters of wire coming off this.
Refit everything you've removed, then:
- make a small hole in the large grommet behind the glovebox.
- remove the glovebox (4xT20) and push the wire through the grommet, pulling the loose wire into the cabin.
- tie wrap the wire under the bonnet well, so it's not loose and not dangling over anything hot
- remove the headunit and pass the wire through to the driver's footwell
- remove the lightswitch and trim covering the pedals (4xT20)
- connect the wire you've pulled through the grommet to the grey wire coming out of the clutch switch plug. Again, make sure it's a tight connection and well insulated.
Plug the clutch switch in, fit it, tie wrap the wiring so it's near, refit everything you've removed and that's it... all you need now is a stalk and programming.
If you are missing the plug for the clutch switch as well, you can substitute this with the wiring you get for computer motherboard connections - it fits perfectly. Connect one pin of the switch to the wire you've just laid and the other end to 12v (the wire to the ciggy lighter is ideal to tap for this purpose). Doesn't matter which way round it's connected. A dab of glue/sealant is recommended too.
sembrerebbe la soluzione definitiva, però fa un po' paura dover mettere mano alla centralina...
